PARENTS ASSOCIATION

Practical assignment

In this class we have  done an interesting practice where we've analyzed the way a parents association works and how it influence the school. Furthermore, we have explained how important is to  organize independent activities by various sectors of the educational community, like parents associations, and how parents could get involved.

I used to think that parents associations only participate in extracurricular activities, just suggesting to the school things that could be implemented. In this lesson I've realized that I was quite wrong. I have understood that parents take part while doing the community-building part and the Anual General Programe where they don't only suggest the activities, they pose their opinion about issues like the canteen, scholar buses or specific activities. Moreover, all these issues get included in those documents and are introduced during the year at he school.

The most difficult thing for us to do was finding the way the association could be improved. We all agreed that a collaborative culture, based on the organizations collective learning, with objectives shared by the whole community, will help to implement any parents organization.

As, Federica (2014) exposes parent associations appear from the need to fill the whole series of gaps which lie on these relations, so that students education may be improved, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Therefore, the objective of the associations should be to stimulate and encourage initiatives to improve the quality of education that the students receive.
I couldn't agree more with her, because if we really want to achieve a effective way of working between the parents and teachers, parents association should be implemented, to ensure a better relationship which leads to a better education for students.
