THE DIFFERENT RELATIONSHIPS AT SCHOOL
In this class we've been talking about the different relationships that the students, teachers and the school community have between each other. Moreover it has been explained the different types of cultures that are promoted, the differences between management and leadership actions and which kind of leaders we have in the educational context as well as the ones that we have in the management positions.
I used to think before this lesson that all the directors and people of the governing bodies follow the same rules in all the schools. Furthermore, I thought that there only was two different leadership: the authoritarian and democratic.
In this lesson I have learnt the differences between the styles of leaderships between the management and school context. It has surprised me that we can distinguish between five different styles which are: humanistic, technical, educational, symbolic and cultural.
The most difficult thing for me to learn was the different definitions that each author gives to the concept of leadership and innovation, because they are quite similar but each one has a different point of view.
I think that I have to learn more about the paper that leaders have in school and how to be a good leader.
After doing a research, I have found a short videos that summarizes perfectly what qualityes a good leader need to have and how it can influence their team:
In the video it is explained the importance of the attitude when you are in charge of a group of people, and as far as I'm concerned if a school has a good director and a good school council the quality of education would rise. That's because if all the school community have a good relation with the director they will be able to work harder and better, don't you agree?
I don't know if you agree with me but Kim and Educ (2004) explain clearly the main objective of the school council in the school and how they can also have an important paper in the school management. They say that the main objective of the reform is decentralization. According to the reform, the school council was introduced to enforce autonomous and responsible school-based management giving more importance to participation to each sector of the school community.
