A PROJECT-WORK

Practical assignment:

In this class we've something quite different from the usual practices we are used to do. We normally search for some specific information or we analyze the information that we have been given, but in this case we've created our own project-work based on the different pedagogical aspects  that are included in the LOMCE.

I didn't know before this lesson how many aspects that need to be taken into account while a project-work is being created. I also used to think that project-works of the same centre had more or less the same structure. I have learnt many interesting things, for example: it is necessary to take into account how difficult the project would be for students, what do we want them to learn or what are we going to do for developing the activity.

What I found most difficult was to find the advantages and disadvantages that the project-work that we were creating had, because we had to suppose which difficulties students will have to face up if they were told to do the activity that we proposed.

I have been doing a research and I have found interesting projects that other centres have developed and I think that are very interesting:

Solar City school project working model to illustrate the use of renewable solar energy and the advantages of solar energy for our future use.

This global warming  school project workes as a model to show visually the problems that this issue it is generating and how it can affect us.

As I said I think that project-works are an essential part of the subjects to let the students the opportunity to create things based on what they have learnt in classes. This opinion perfectly fits with the definition that Sabine and Plumpton (1985) give of a project-work, which sayas that  a project work should be  a compulsory part of each subject in A-levels. That's why practical or project work is an integral part of the teaching of statistics at A-level where practical work is required for the actual examination.
